The Mountain, the Mirror,

and the Pocket Watch

I stand at a barbed wire fence
still mountains fill my eyes from miles away
A mirror reflects the moment
flashing in the sun, and hanging from a chain
And a pocket watch
swinging in the wind, and ticking off the days

Can you see yourself growing older?
Can you feel the time getting shorter?

"There is no world for the penitent
and the regretful"*

Among the mountains, the mirror,
and the pocket watch
Look at the mountains, the mirror,
and the pocket watch

But I'm not finding the connection
as I float through this vision
Best to wait for a different day

(Shaman):
Listen close, you?ll be finding
The pocket watch spring?s unwinding
Time is short; let us brook no delay

So I stare into the mountain?s stone face:
How long have you been where you stand?

And it speaks, with the wisdom of age:
I have been since before there was time

And what do you think of our problems?
I breathe in the time you live and die

Can you see yourself growing older?
Can you feel the time getting shorter?
"Nature refuses to sympathize with our sorrow"*

Ask the mountain, the mirror,
and the pocket watch
Just ask the mountain, the mirror,
and the pocket watch
